On December 3, 2024, Farotimi was arrested in a dramatic gestapo-style raid by the Ekiti State Police Command, accused of defamation related to his book. What followed was a harrowing 21-day detention that drew national and international condemnation.

The conditions of his detention were harsh, reflecting the punitive measures often employed against those who challenge authority. His release came with stringent bail terms: a N30 million bond, severe media restrictions, and an implicit warning to silence his activism.
