Tinubu Approves Move To Appoint New Permanent Secretaries

The Federal Government, through the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF), has begun the process of appointing new Permanent Secretaries to fill vacancies in eight states.

According to a memo dated October 7, 2024, signed by the Head of Civil Service, Didi Walson-Jack, the recruitment is open to eligible civil servants from Abia, Bayelsa, Ebonyi, Enugu, Gombe, Kaduna, Kebbi, and Rivers, in accordance with the Federal Character principle.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that  the memo, circulated to ministers and agency heads, emphasizes that any civil servant facing disciplinary action is barred from applying.

It also outlined eligibility requirements, which include having attained the rank of substantive Director on Salary Grade Level 17 by January 1, 2022, being an indigene of one of the listed states, and having at least one year of service left as of November 18, 2024, when the process concludes.

President Bola Tinubu approved the directive, and current Permanent Secretaries are required to confirm that applicants are not under investigation or disciplinary action.

The vacancies arise as several Permanent Secretaries are retiring or set to retire by December 24, 2024.
