Tinubu Appoints Joseph Tegbe as DG for Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership
President Bola Tinubu has appointed Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe as the Director-General and Global Liaison for Nigeria-China Strategic Partnership, marking a significant step in the bilateral relationship between the two countries.
This announcement was made by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), in a statement released on Sunday.
Tegbe’s appointment aligns with Nigeria and China’s agreement to strengthen collaborations in healthcare, including hospital alliances and medical research.
A first-class civil engineering graduate from Obafemi Awolowo University (1988), Tegbe is also a Fellow of both the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria.

In his new role, he will report directly to President Tinubu and oversee the execution of the partnership.
Onanuga revealed that Tegbe is expected to immediately present a strategic action plan aimed at maximizing Nigeria’s benefits from the agreements formed between the two nations.
The plan will detail specific projects, timelines, and key performance indicators to ensure alignment with Nigeria’s broader development goals.
“As the head of the strategic partnership, Tegbe will manage daily operations, maintain continuous engagement with Chinese counterparts, and ensure that all deliverables are met and aligned with Nigeria’s national objectives,” the statement read.

This comes in the wake of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), where Chinese President Xi Jinping committed 360 billion yuan (approximately $51 billion) in new financing to African countries over the next three years.
During President Tinubu’s official visit to China, President Xi also pledged support for Nigeria’s economic diversification, infrastructure development, technology transfer, and job creation initiatives.
