President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the recruitment of 50 doctors and 100 nurses to enhance healthcare services in correctional centers nationwide.
Additionally, through the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Tinubu has sanctioned the deployment of National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) medical doctors to correctional facilities during their service year.

This initiative aims to strengthen healthcare services and protect the rights of vulnerable inmates.

To address staffing shortages, the Minister announced an extension of service for existing medical personnel under the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) beyond the retirement age.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that Tunji-Ojo also confirmed the completion of renovations at Kuje Correctional Centre, upgrading it into a modern facility with improved cells, water supply, and hospital amenities.
In a bid to bolster national security, Tinubu approved the establishment of a National Paramilitary Academy, a degree-awarding institution modeled after the Nigerian Defence Academy to train citizens in paramilitary engagement.

Further reforms include the full digitization of Nigeria’s visa application process, ensuring all visas are applied for online and processed within 48 to 72 hours. The government is also set to restructure the Private Guard sector with a new Guard Management System to automate operations.
Tunji-Ojo commended Tinubu’s dedication to long-lasting reforms, stating, “For the President, it is about building a system that will stand the test of time.”
