The Federal Government has approved Tuesday, August 25, 2026, as a public holiday to commemorate Eid ul Mawlid, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, announced the holiday in a statement issued on Friday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Magdalene Ajani.

The minister congratulated Muslims in Nigeria and across the diaspora, urging them to use the occasion to reflect on the teachings and virtues associated with the Prophet’s life.
Tunji-Ojo highlighted compassion, humility and service to humanity as values that Nigerians should embrace, noting that they were important to building a more peaceful and united society.

He also encouraged Nigerians to pray for peace and national unity, stressing that maintaining stability and cohesion required the collective efforts of citizens.
The minister called on Muslims and other Nigerians to celebrate the holiday responsibly and with respect for one another.
He further assured citizens that the Federal Government remained committed to protecting lives and property while promoting peace and security across the country.
