President Bola Tinubu launched the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day Emblem and Appeal Fund on Tuesday at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
During the brief ceremony, President Tinubu praised the armed forces for their vital role as the first line of defense in safeguarding the nation. He emphasized the military’s contributions to addressing various threats to national security, stating that promoting peace and development is impossible without security.

The President noted that the armed forces’ dedication to Nigeria’s unity, stability, and progress is invaluable.
In recognition of the sacrifices made by fallen heroes, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume, pledged a donation of N500 million on behalf of government officials.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced a donation of N200 million on behalf of the National Assembly, while the Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, declared a donation of N50 million from the Service Chiefs. Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, also contributed to the efforts.
Armed Forces Remembrance Day is commemorated annually on January 15 to honor those who lost their lives protecting the country and its citizens. The 2025 event will be the second one hosted by President Tinubu since taking office.
On that day, President Tinubu, alongside Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, Senate President, Chief Justice of the Federation, and other dignitaries, is expected to lay wreaths in honor of the fallen heroes.
