EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement made available on Sunday, Aliu said the appointment of the 39 year old scholar and examination systems expert to lead one of Nigeria’s key education agencies highlighted the administration’s focus on merit, innovation, and technocratic leadership.
According to him, the appointment aligns with previous decisions by the Tinubu administration to place younger professionals in strategic public offices.
He cited the appointment of Mustapha Abdullahi as Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria in 2023 at age 40, Jennifer Adighije as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Niger Delta Power Holding Company at age 42, and Zacch Adedeji as Executive Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service.
Aliu stated that Aina’s appointment further demonstrated the President’s belief that competence and capacity should take priority over age considerations in governance.
He added that Aina, a lecturer in the Department of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, had built a reputation for combining academic excellence with practical institutional reforms and digital systems development.
According to him, education stakeholders believe Aina’s experience positions him to tackle some of JAMB’s major challenges, including examination security, digital transformation, result integrity, candidate accessibility, and operational efficiency.
“With millions of candidates sitting for JAMB examinations annually, the institution remains central to Nigeria’s higher education framework, making the role of Registrar one of immense national significance,” Aliu said.
He further noted that the appointment came at a time when the education sector required technology driven leadership capable of modernising outdated systems and restoring confidence among students, parents, and tertiary institutions.

Aliu added that for many young Nigerians, the appointment carries symbolic importance, as it signals that excellence and preparedness can earn national responsibility regardless of age.
