President Bola Tinubu is anticipated to unveil a much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle this week following a closed-door meeting with Hadiza Bala-Usman, Special Adviser on Policy Coordination.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Bala-Usman’s office is responsible for establishing criteria to evaluate ministerial performance, using a “citizens’ delivery tracker” to gather data on the cabinet’s effectiveness.

The reshuffle is expected to fill vacancies left by key resignations, such as Simon Lalong, the former Minister of Labour and Employment, who resigned to take a Senate seat, and Betta Edu, suspended as Minister of Humanitarian Affairs amid scandals.

There is speculation that the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs may be merged with the Ministry of Finance due to Edu’s suspension. Additionally, a new Minister is expected to be appointed for the Ministry of Livestock Development.

Before taking a two-week leave, President Tinubu expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of some ministers and directed them to better communicate the administration’s achievements to the public.

While the exact timing of the reshuffle remains unclear, Tinubu has indicated his intent to make changes soon.

Mustapha Audu, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), urged the President to act quickly, stating that more than 50% of the current ministers are underperforming.

However, the Northern Elders Political Development Group passed a vote of confidence in certain ministers, including Farouk Dangiwa, Abubakar Atiku, Mohammed Matawalle, and Christopher Musa, urging Tinubu to focus on combating insecurity and implementing economic reforms instead of a reshuffle.

The reshuffle, if announced, would be a critical step in Tinubu’s ongoing efforts to strengthen his administration.
