Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election: We Are Yet To Decide – Arewa
The President General of the Arewa Youth Consultative Forum, Yerima Shettima, has stated that the northern region has not yet reached a collective decision on whether to support President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
This comes after the suspended National Chairman of the Arewa Consultative Forum, Mamman Osuman, reportedly declared that the north would back a candidate from the region against Tinubu to address perceived hardship under his administration.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in an interview with Saturday PUNCH, Shettima clarified that discussions are ongoing, and the north’s stance would depend on an assessment of Tinubu’s performance in office. He emphasized that the region, known for its significant political influence, is carefully weighing the administration’s policies and their impact on the country.
“The north has not taken any position against Tinubu yet,” Shettima said. “However, those dissatisfied with his government have the right to voice their anger. For now, there is no collective decision, though some voices are urging Tinubu to adopt more people-friendly policies that can uplift Nigerians.”
Dismissing claims of a northern coalition against the president, Shettima added, “Anyone who tells you that the north has ganged up against Tinubu is lying. We haven’t reached that point, and many of us believe the government still has time to make meaningful changes.”
When asked about supporting a northern candidate in 2027, Shettima stated, “If Tinubu performs well, I see no reason why he shouldn’t continue. But if he fails, we will collectively work against him.
Ultimately, I hope someone from the north succeeds him after eight years, provided the country is on the right track.”
