Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the newly nominated Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, has visited former Plateau State Governor, Senator Simon Bako Lalong.
This visit comes after Lalong resigned from President Tinubu’s cabinet, where he served as Minister of Labour, Employment, and Productivity, to take up his new role as a Senator in the National Assembly.
Lalong had previously supported Yilwatda as his preferred successor for the Plateau governorship, after Yilwatda secured the All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial ticket. Following his nomination earlier today, Yilwatda’s visit to Lalong is being widely regarded as a gesture of gratitude.
In related developments, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, announced that his office is working closely with the Head of Civil Service of the Federation to execute the President’s directive on the merger and restructuring of several ministries.
EDITOR’S PICKS
Akume confirmed that orders have been issued to ensure the completion of all handover processes by Wednesday, October 30, 2024. Outgoing ministers without immediate successors have been instructed to transfer their responsibilities to the relevant Permanent Secretaries.
Akume further noted the merger of the Ministry of Tourism with the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, and the winding down of the Ministry of Sports Development, both of which are being supervised by the SGF and the Head of Civil Service.
Additionally, the renaming and expansion of the mandate of the Ministry of Niger Delta Development have already taken effect, with relevant bodies being informed of the changes. Permanent Secretaries are tasked with ensuring smooth transitions and submitting handover notes to the SGF for record purposes.
