Famous songstress Tiwa has publicly called for her colleague, Tems, to be recognized as one of the genre’s top artists.
As Eko blog reports, this challenge questions the long-standing “Big 3” narrative, which exclusively celebrates the male trio of Davido, Burna Boy, and Wizkid.

Speaking during an interview with BBC Radio 1Xtra, Tiwa argued that the label unfairly overlooks the remarkable achievements of female artists. She believes that the industry’s financial structures give certain types of artists, primarily men, more money to spend on promotion and radio play, making their music more widespread.

“I feel like it is unfair to have a conversation about the Top 3 and not mention someone like Tems. she asked, directly challenging the bias.
Tems has undeniably earned her place at the top. She first gained global fame with her collaboration with Wizkid on the 2020 hit song, “Essence.” She then went on to win her first Grammy Award in 2023 for her part in Future’s “Wait For U” before securing a second Grammy in 2025 for “Best African Performance.”
