- Traders Drown as Canoe Hits Stone

Three traders have been confirmed dead and one remains missing after the canoe they were traveling in capsized upon hitting a large stone in the River Niger while en route to Hikiya in Rohiya Local Government Area of Niger State.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that one trader is still unaccounted for, while others were rescued from the river. According to reports from the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, the incident occurred at 11:14 a.m. on Tuesday.

A local source told our correspondent that the accident took place as the traders were returning to their communities in Niger State after concluding their transactions at the Yauri market in Kebbi State.
The head of the Disaster Management Team of the Red Cross Society of Nigeria, Yauri Division, Nafiu Nuhu, said: “The accident occurred as the canoe hit a stone under the water leading to the drowning of three passengers while another is still missing.”
He explained that with the help of Red Cross members, the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and community volunteers, some of the victims were rescued from the river.
He also stated that the bodies of the deceased traders have been buried in their community in Hikiya, Niger State, while efforts continue to locate the missing individual.
