As Mbappé’s time at PSG came to a close, Liverpool was the Premier League club most closely linked with him.
However, Real Madrid emerged as the leading candidate to secure his signature on a free transfer.
Instead of paying a hefty transfer fee, the La Liga giants chose to wait and acquire Mbappé for free, confirming his arrival over the summer.

According to L’Equipe, via Football 365, Liverpool made a €200 million (£169 million) offer for Mbappé in 2022, and the player reportedly ‘agreed’ to the move.
However, PSG’s then-director, Antero Henrique, countered with a demand of €400 million, which Liverpool could not meet.
Mbappé made an immediate impact at Real Madrid, scoring in his debut during the 2-0 UEFA Super Cup win over Atalanta.
Although he initially struggled to find the net in his first three La Liga appearances, the French forward bounced back in his fourth game, scoring twice in a 2-0 victory over Real Betis before the international break.
