The operation, which according to the statement, took place on 16 September 2024, also led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a cache of ammunition.
The syndicate has been on the military’s watchlist given its involvement in a series of crimes, including armed robbery, kidnapping and illegal arms deals.
The statement identified one apprehended Ali Tambaya of Wanzani village as a key member of the syndicate who was caught in possession of an AK-47 rifle and 42 rounds of 7.62MM special ammunition.
During the preliminary investigation, Ali Tambaya confessed that he got the rifle from one Alhaji Dandi at N500,000 about 5 years ago and got ammunition at the cost of N1000 each. He also claimed that one Alhaji Kiwo gave him 38 rounds out of the 42 for safekeeping.
Troops immediately went after the other suspects and apprehended Alhaji Dandi while an effort was ongoing to track and arrest Alhaji Kiwo.
The statement added that the Brigade commended the troops’ efforts and reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating criminal elements in Taraba State and ensuring peace and stability for all citizens.
”We urged members of the public to continue to provide timely and accurate information to security forces, as the cooperation between the military and the civilian population remains vital to achieving lasting peace,” the statement added.
