Donald Trump has issued a new threat of trade taxes (tariffs) against Canada, saying he might impose a 35% tariff on Canadian goods not covered by the existing US-Mexico-Canada trade deal.

Carney clarified that this recognition would depend on the Palestinian Authority meeting certain conditions, including getting rid of military groups and holding elections without Hamas. Trump views Canada’s potential recognition of Palestine as “rewarding Hamas” and has stated that it will make a trade deal between the US and Canada “very difficult.”
He has previously expressed similar strong opinions about the United Kingdom’s intention to recognize Palestine indicating that Canada is now preparing for this new tariff deadline and the ongoing trade discussions with the US, which are often described as unpredictable.
