US President Donald Trump celebrated his 80th birthday on Sunday with a high-profile Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) event staged on the South Lawn of the White House.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the event, dubbed “UFC Freedom 250,” formed part of activities commemorating the 250th anniversary of American independence and featured several top UFC fighters competing in a specially constructed arena known as “The Claw.”

The unprecedented spectacle transformed the White House grounds into a combat sports venue, drawing thousands of spectators and generating widespread public debate.

Supporters described the event as a unique celebration of American culture and athleticism, while critics questioned the appropriateness of hosting a violent sporting contest at the presidential residence amid ongoing economic and geopolitical challenges.
The White House said the UFC covered all costs associated with the event, estimated at about $60 million, with no financial burden placed on taxpayers.
Trump, who has maintained a long-standing relationship with UFC executives and athletes, promoted the event as a major attraction and welcomed several fighters to the White House ahead of the competition.
UFC Chief Content Officer Craig Borsari insisted the event was intended to celebrate American athletes and national pride rather than advance any political agenda.
Reports indicated that some fighters made ceremonial entrances from inside the White House before proceeding to the competition area, where bouts were held inside the UFC’s signature Octagon cage before an audience of more than 4,000 invited guests.
Fighter Michael Chandler described the gathering as one of the most significant events in combat sports history, while French heavyweight Ciryl Gane said the occasion offered athletes an opportunity to perform before a global audience.

In addition to the fights, the programme featured military band performances, aerial displays, parachute demonstrations, historical presentations, and a fireworks display marking the country’s milestone anniversary.
The event proceeded after a federal judge rejected a legal challenge seeking to halt it. Organisers also set up large public viewing areas across Washington, allowing thousands of spectators to follow the action on giant screens.
The birthday celebration further highlighted Trump’s preference for large-scale public events, coming a year after he presided over a military parade marking the 250th anniversary of the US Army.
While questions about the president’s health and age have continued to surface, Trump remained at the centre of the festivities, embracing the occasion with the same high-profile style that has characterised much of his political career.
