President-elect Donald Trump has nominated businessman Warren Stephens to serve as the United States Ambassador to the United Kingdom.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that in a statement on Truth Social, Trump expressed enthusiasm, saying, “Warren has always dreamed of serving the United States full time. I am thrilled that he will now have that opportunity as the top diplomat, representing the USA to one of America’s most cherished and beloved allies.”

Stephens, the CEO of the Arkansas-based private investment bank Stephens Inc., was a major donor to Trump’s re-election campaign this year. If confirmed, he will play a key role in maintaining the “special relationship” between the US and the UK, a long-standing bond characterized by close military, intelligence, and cultural ties.

Trump has emphasized a shift in US foreign policy, focusing on an “America-first” approach, and has pledged to reshape international relationships. The position of US Ambassador to the UK is one of the most prestigious diplomatic roles, often given to prominent supporters.

During his first term, Trump appointed Woody Johnson, a major Republican donor and owner of the New York Jets, as ambassador to the UK. Similarly, President Obama selected Louis Susman, a longtime Democratic fundraiser and lawyer, for the role.

While Stephens has been a vocal Trump supporter in recent years, his past political donations tell a different story. In 2016, he contributed around $4 million to groups opposing Trump’s presidential bid, according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. Additionally, Stephens donated over $2 million to a PAC backing former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley’s 2024 presidential campaign, which was unsuccessful.

However, as Trump clinched the Republican presidential nomination this year, Stephens shifted his support, contributing to Republican candidates and groups, as shown by federal campaign finance records.

Stephens expressed his gratitude for the nomination, stating that he was honoured to be considered for the role.

“I have expressed to President Trump that I would be extremely proud to serve our country and his administration, working to implement the President’s agenda and further strengthen the long-standing alliance between the United States and the United Kingdom,” he said.

He and his wife also maintain a philanthropic organisation, the Harriet and Warren Stephens Family Foundation, which has donated to the Arkansas Museum of Fine Arts, the University of Mississippi, and the Episcopal Collegiate School in Little Rock.
