-Military court sentenced General Diendere and General Bassole to 30 years imprisonment for harming state security.
A military court has sentenced General Gilbert Diendere 20 years imprisonment on charges of murder and harming state security.
General Diendere was an associate to the ousted former president Blaise Campaore.
General Djibrill Bassole, accused of treason, was also sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.
According to lawyer to the injured, Prosper Farama said: “this is a victory for the Burkinabe people, a victory for democracy and the rule of law.”
“Only the people, by their legitimacy, confer power.”
Diendere and Bassole were the leading figures in a 19 months trial of 84 people accused of the attempted overthrow of Burkina’s transitional government.
Fourteen people were reportedly killed and more than 300 wounded during the unrest.
