UCL: Olise Scores Twice As Bayern Munich Thrash Shakhtar Donetsk 5-1

Bayern Munich came from behind to defeat Shakhtar Donetsk, boosting their hopes of advancing to the Champions League last 16.

The hosts took the lead early with a stunning goal from Brazilian forward Kevin, who curled the ball into the far corner just five minutes into the match for his first goal in the competition.

Falling behind seemed to energize Bayern, who were missing injured England international Harry Kane. Six minutes later, they were level when Konrad Laimer blasted the ball into the roof of the net.

Bayern’s attack, featuring Jamal Musiala, Michael Olise, and Leroy Sane behind forward Thomas Muller, came close to scoring again, with each player threatening to put Bayern ahead.

Shakhtar had a golden opportunity to regain the lead when Georgiy Sudakov was clean through on goal, but the Ukrainian midfielder failed to finish from 10 yards with only the goalkeeper to beat.

Moments later, Muller took advantage of a simple tap-in to score his 55th Champions League goal, putting Bayern ahead at the break.

The second half was all Bayern as they pushed for their first away win of the season in the Champions League. Olise converted from the penalty spot after Alaa Ghram fouled Sacha Boey, and Musiala extended the lead with a clinical finish following a neat piece of skill.

Olise, who joined Bayern from Crystal Palace for £50m in the summer, capped off the scoring with a brilliant solo effort, dribbling past multiple defenders before calmly slotting the ball past the goalkeeper into an empty net.

With the victory, Bayern have moved up to eighth in the standings, with fixtures against Feyenoord and Slovan Bratislava still to come in January.

Shakhtar, sitting in 27th place, will finish their campaign next month with matches against Brest and Borussia Dortmund.
