Eko Hot Blog reports that at least three explosions have been heard in the Ukrainian capital Kyiv.
A Ukrainian news outlet, Kyiv Independent, said the explosions came from Russian attacks with “kamikaze drones” early Monday morning.
The outlet said the attack caused a fire in a non-residential building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, Kyiv, according to Mayor Vitalii Klitschko who wrote on Telegram.
A journalist reporting from Ukraine said the explosions forced people to a bomb shelter.
“At least two explosions in central Kyiv. We were on our way to the bomb shelter when the second one struck really close. In the bomb shelter now,” Nolan Peterson tweeted.
Andriy Yermak, head of President Zelensky’s office, also confirmed that the attacks were from so-called kamikaze drones.
According to BBC’s Paul Adams, who is in the city, the explosions happened at around 07:00 local time (04:00 GMT).
Klitschko said rescuers were on site, and told residents to stay in air raid shelters.
The early Monday morning attacks come a week after the capital and several other cities were hit by several Russian missiles, in a nationwide attack which left 19 dead.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said last week’s strikes were in retaliation for the bombing of a key bridge linking Russia to occupied Crimea, which he blamed on Ukraine.
Later that week week, Putin said there was no need for more large-scale strikes on Ukraine.
He claimed that most designated targets had been hit and it was not his aim to destroy the country.
