David Umahi, Ebonyi governor, says he and Pius Anyim, former senate president, resolved to join the All Progressives Congress congress together but things changed along the line.
He said their plan failed to materialise after Anyim withdrew because he sidelined him (Anyim) during his visit to President Muhammadu Buhari.
Umahi made this known when he spoke at a stakeholders’ meetings at Ebonyi government house in Abakaliki on Sunday.
The governor had visited Buhari on November 18 — a day after he made his quitting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the the ruling party public.
President Muhammadu Buhari hailed Umahi for his move, saying with men like him, the country’s democracy has a bright future.
But the Ebonyi national assembly caucus disassociated itself from the governor on his move.
The governor said the plan was for Anyim, a former secretary to the government of the federation (SGF), to join him in the ruling pparty a fortnight after he might have “successfully” left the PDP.

Umahi said Ebonyi national assembly members agreed to defect with him but that they were unhappy because he pulled a first one on them by joining the APC first.
“They were planning to ambush me, but it is difficult to catch the air,” PUNCH quoted the governor to have said.
