- Ado Haruna, a 50-year-old informant, led bandits to kidnap his nephew’s family in Zaria, Kaduna State.
- Despite a ransom payment of N13 million, four motorcycles, and recharge cards, Haruna received only N200,000.
- The IGP Intelligence Response Team arrested Haruna alongside a notorious kidnapper, Nyali Hassan, in Kano.
A 50-year-old informant, Ado Haruna, has been arrested for conspiring with bandits to kidnap his nephew, Alhaji Bashiru Anas, and his family in Zaria, Kaduna State.
EKO HOT BLOG reports that despite orchestrating the abduction, which led to a ransom payment of N13 million, four new motorcycles, and N300,000 worth of Airtel recharge cards, Haruna received only N200,000 as his share.
Operatives of the IGP Intelligence Response Team (IRT) apprehended Haruna, who was among several criminal suspects paraded in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Haruna, a resident of Angwa Kanawa Dutse Abba, allegedly led three bandits—Shago Yaro, Tanimu Ayuba, and Lamido Dantajiri—to his nephew’s home, pretending to be a victim.
On the night of the attack, around 1 a.m., the gang stormed Anas’ residence but found that he was not at home. Instead, they abducted his two wives, three children, younger brother, and his brother’s wife. The victims were held captive for 60 days in Buruku Sabo Birni, where negotiations for their release took place.

Confessing to his role, Haruna said, “I’m into farming and vigilante work. It is true that I was the one who took the bandits to Alhaji Anas’ house. He is my nephew, my elder sister’s son. I knew only one of the bandits who asked me to lead them there.”
He continued, “For the 60 days his family was in the bush, I was using Anas’ phone to communicate with the bandits. They received over N10 million as ransom, but I was only given N200,000. I used it to buy maize.”
Expressing surprise at his arrest, Haruna added, “I didn’t know how the police found out about my involvement. Life pushed me into crime.”
In a related development, police operatives arrested Nyali Hassan, a notorious kidnapper linked to multiple abductions in Kano and Kaduna States.
Acting on intelligence, IRT operatives tracked Hassan to Stara Rago in Kano, where he was apprehended with an AK-47 rifle (breech number 6047) and two empty magazines.
During interrogation, Hassan admitted being part of a six-man gang operating in Makarfi, Bari, Yankin Rago, and Beli towns. He identified his accomplices as Kawuje, Moude, Babagida, Kabiru, and Umar, revealing that Umar remained at large with two AK-47 rifles.
A 35-year-old father of ten, Hassan said, “I have two wives and 10 children. I farm and rear cattle, but I added kidnapping to it a year ago. I have kidnapped eight people, receiving ransoms between N1 million and N10 million. Some victims escaped when our guards fell asleep. We mainly targeted wealthy individuals.”
He further explained their strategy, “We either ambushed victims on the road or attacked their homes. We never killed anyone.”

Hassan blamed peer influence for his criminal activities. “I know the Qur’an does not support crime, but my friends misled me. They spent lavishly, and I wanted the same.”
He disclosed that he used his proceeds to buy a pickup van and inherited 20 cows from his late father. “Umar, one of my gang members, taught me how to shoot an AK-47,” he added.
The FPRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, assured that security forces were intensifying efforts to arrest the remaining gang members and recover their weapons.
