- UNILAG denies claims of system error,
- Only proven cases flagged for malpractice,
- Over 20,000 candidates took part in the online exam,
The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has dismissed rumours of technical glitches during its 2025/2026 Post‑UTME, insisting that flagged malpractice cases were based on solid evidence.
Eko Hot Blog reports that several candidates took to social media to allege they were wrongly accused of cheating during the recently concluded Post‑UTME exercise. Some claimed they were victims of system glitches or unstable internet, prompting public calls for the university to release full video evidence for transparency.

However, UNILAG has now addressed these claims directly. In a statement signed by the Head of the Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga‑Ibraheem, the university explained that all malpractice notifications issued were based on verified violations of examination rules—not on any technical error. The institution further clarified that the screening exercise, held from September 1 to 4, 2025, was conducted entirely online under multiple layers of security, including video surveillance and system monitoring.

The university disclosed that 20,464 candidates participated in the online screening, and only those who were found to have breached the rules were flagged. While raw video footage of the violations will not be released due to data protection policies, UNILAG stated that anonymised screenshots may be shared as needed to demonstrate the types of misconduct recorded.
It also warned applicants and parents to disregard unofficial reports and obtain updates strictly from its authorised communication channels. UNILAG reiterated its stance on fairness, assuring that only those with confirmed misconduct will face sanctions.
The institution concluded by restating its zero-tolerance policy on examination malpractice and its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its admissions process.
