EKO HOT BLOG reports that a letter from the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC), dated March 27, 2025, confirmed that the “Kogi Central Political Frontier,” a key group leading the recall effort, does not exist in its records. The CAC further clarified that it does not register political bodies or pressure groups, raising questions about the legitimacy of the recall campaign.
This revelation casts doubt on the credibility of the recall petition, which has sparked intense political debate since Akpoti-Uduaghan took office. Critics argue that the process may be politically motivated rather than driven by genuine voter dissatisfaction.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had earlier confirmed that recall proceedings had commenced against the senator. In a letter dated March 26 and signed by INEC Secretary Rose Oriaran Anthony, the electoral body notified Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate President Godswill Akpabio of the petition. INEC stated that the process was in line with Section 69 of the Nigerian Constitution.
Akpoti-Uduaghan has remained vocal against the recall efforts, dismissing them as politically driven. The controversy continues to unfold, with supporters and opponents clashing over the legitimacy and motivations behind the petition.
