President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the naming of the Railway Complex in Agbor, Delta state, the operational hub of the Itakpe-Warri line, after former President Goodluck Jonathan.
Presidential aide, Tolu Ogunlesi disclosed this via his Twitter handle @toluogunlesi on Saturday.
The facility will now be known as the Goodluck Jonathan Railway Station and Complex, Ogunlesi said.
The Presidential aide also explained that “The ItakpeWarriRail Line was started by former President Ibrahim Babangida in 1987, and completed by President Buhari in 2020. It is currently undergoing test-running, ahead of commissioning for commercial operations by President Buhari: 327km, 12 Stations, Standard Gauge.”
According to Tolu, the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, announced this on Saturday.

The Itakpe-Ajaokuta-Warri rail line has a length of 276 km and links Warri in Delta State to Ajaokuta in Kogi State.
It also has 12 stations with two located between Itakpe, Ajaokuta and Warri.
They include Itakpe; Eganiy; Adobe; Itogbo; Agenebode; Uromi; Egehen; Igbanke; Agbor; Abraka; Okpara and Ujewu stations.
The line, which was started in 1987, was built to move iron ore from mines around Itakpe to the steelworks at Ajaokuta but was abandoned for many years before construction resumed during Buhari’s first term in office.
