She noted that UNILAG’s location and limited land space have made hostel provision particularly difficult, with off-campus accommodation in Lagos remaining costly and scarce.
According to her, the university currently has about 10,000 bed spaces for a student population of over 35,000, making additional hostel facilities a pressing necessity.

Professor Ogunsola thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, for supporting the initiative, describing it as a major relief for students and the university management.
She stressed that beyond increasing bed capacity, the institution is focused on delivering modern, high-quality hostels that will stand the test of time.
“We are not just building hostels; we are building future-ready student spaces that will transform the landscape of this university,” she said, adding that UNILAG would not compromise on standards.

The vice chancellor also commended the project developer, CMF Gardens Housing Limited, while assuring the firm of the university’s full cooperation to ensure smooth execution.
She expressed optimism that the project would be completed within the one-year timeline announced at the event, pledging to closely monitor progress.
Professor Ogunsola concluded by expressing gratitude on behalf of the staff and students, noting that the new hostel would further enhance the learning environment and overall campus experience at the University of Lagos.
