  • President-elect Tinubu left Nigeria for France ten days later to “undertake rest” according to his team.

  • Reports emerged on Thursday that both men were set for a clandestine meeting in the UK.

Eko Hot Blog reports that the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Kayode Ariwoola, was spotted leaving the Supreme Court for the Ansar-Ud-Deen Central Mosque, Abuja, to observe his prayers on Friday.

This development comes in the wake of speculations that he is in London, United Kingdom, to meet President-elect Bola Tinubu, who is in Paris, France, according to his team.

An online platform, Peoples Gazette, reported on Thursday, that the CJN secretly travelled to London and disguised in a wheelchair to meet Tinubu regarding legal matters that may arise from the petitions against the latter’s victory in the February 25 presidential election.

The president-elect’s media team swiftly debunked the report as fake and malicious, while the Supreme Court denied that a meeting happened.

Tinubu’s team said he was in Paris at the time the report claimed he was meeting with the CJN in London.

Meanwhile, Supreme Court’s spokesperson, Festus Akande, told Premium Times on Friday that contrary to claims in the report that Justice Ariwoola travelled out of Nigeria on March 11, he only travelled out of Nigeria briefly to London on March 18 for medical care.

Akande also disclosed that the chief justice returned to the country on Thursday, March 23.

“On 23 March, the CJN returned from his medical trip to London and later reported in the office [in Abuja], where he worked till 8p.m,” he said.
