On December 29, 2024, a distress call alerted the police to the incident at Jabi Motor Park. Upon arrival, officers found Esther severely burned and the suspect beaten to a stupor. Both were taken to the hospital for treatment. Police investigations revealed that a heated argument escalated into a physical struggle, during which the fire broke out.
In his defense, Ganiyu claimed he loved Esther deeply and insisted the incident was unintentional. He alleged that her addiction to alcohol had caused tension in their relationship, and the fire resulted from spilled petrol while trying to stop her from drinking.
