Speaking virtually at the 2024 Aqsa Day event organized by the Muslim Awareness International (MAI) in Lagos on Monday, Fani-Kayode criticized Israeli aggression, which has reportedly resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 Palestinians, primarily women and children.

As the event’s keynote speaker, he highlighted the growing global opposition to the violence in Gaza and expressed hope that the Palestinian people would soon achieve liberation.
He said: “It is incumbent upon those of us that are still decent minded and have the fear of God to rise up and speak against this evil. And I’m glad that it’s happening all over the world today. It’s happening in America. It’s happening in Europe. South Africa’s taking the lead on the African continent, and many people are speaking out.
“Ireland has condemned it. Belgium has condemned it. Spain has condemned it. 90% of countries in South America have condemned it. Many elements within France have condemned it. Even the UK has reduced its arms sales to them.
“The whole world is condemning it. Top campuses in America, like Harvard, Yale, Oxford and Cambridge, have demonstrations against what’s going on in Gaza. The way we’re fighting, the way we are speaking against what is happening in Gaza today is the way people once spoke against apartheid in South Africa, and it’s only a question of time before true liberation comes to the people of Palestine, and that Palestine is free.
“We are doing our part here by speaking out on a daily basis in our country, Nigeria. It has nothing to do with religion. It’s everything to do with humanity. Whether you’re Christian or Muslim or neither of the two, you have a right and a duty to speak up for the people of Palestine, to remember those children are being killed on a daily basis, and to resist an evil Zionist state that is predicated on apartheid and believes everybody else should be destroyed.”
