Ibori Loot: Finally, FG Receives £4.2 Million From UK

The Delta government has implored the President Muhammadu Buhari-led federal government  to hand over the £4.2 million recovered from ex-Governor James Ibori to the state.

The Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, had on Tuesday, said Nigeria will receive the money from UK within two weeks.

According to Malami, the loot would be used to fund capital projects in some part of the country, among such projects are construction of the second Niger Bridge, Abuja-Kano road, and Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

However, the Delta state government has expressed its displeasure with the central government decision to spend the loot on federal projects.

A spokesman for Delta, Charles Aniagwu, said the argument that the state government didn’t participate in recovery of the loots lacks substance.

He added that the federal government was in position to embark on recovery because it has the resources, connections and wherewithal to do so.

Aniagwu said this in reaction to claim by Malami  that Delta did not participate in the recovery of the loot.

Aniagwu said “It is the federal government that is supposed to pursue it as our father, not we.

“If I have a child and need to protect because the child refuses to accompany me, does it mean the father will not protect the child?”

Arguing further that the state needed the fund, he disclosed, “There are lots of project in Delta to use the money to benefit Deltans”

He added that the fund will enable the state to swiftly complete projects it has embarked on.

“We have a lot of projects in Delta that we can put the money (into), and what we will use the money for is not a problem.

“Like roads, market and so many other infrastructures that require attention that when we see that money, it will help us to fast-track the development of such infrastructure.”
