EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking during the third-day Islamic prayer (Fidau) held in Katsina State in honour of the late president, Obi shared that Buhari had urged him to prioritise the welfare of poor Nigerians.
“I had the opportunity of meeting him while I was campaigning,” Obi said. “And I remember his words till today: ‘Please care for the poor Nigerians.’ That’s what I always remember. And I believe that he did his best within his capacity.”
Obi added that the brief interaction left a lasting impression on him, praising Buhari’s sincerity and concern for the underprivileged. He described the former president as a man whose legacy was marked by simplicity and dedication to the masses.
“Of course, like I said, I was not close to him. I only met him during my campaign. But I remember vividly his sincere appeal for fighting and caring for the poor,” Obi noted.
The federal government’s delegation to the prayer was led by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who delivered President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s message. Tinubu described Buhari’s passing as “a great loss” and stated that the late leader “will truly be missed.”
Also in attendance were top government officials, Islamic clerics, and dignitaries, including the former Attorney-General of the Federation and the Chief of Army Staff.

Although the formal three-day mourning rites have concluded, Islamic clerics are expected to continue special prayers for an additional seven days, following Islamic traditions and an agreement between the family, Katsina State Government, and the presidency.
