Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has introduced a free transport scheme to ease movement and cushion economic strain during the festive period.
Eko Hot Blog reports that the initiative, named the “Xmas Free Transport Service,” was launched in Calabar and will operate throughout the Calabar Festival to support residents and visitors.

Represented by his Deputy, Peter Odey, the Governor said the free bus service has become a tradition under his administration both during Christmas and Easter, aligning with his People First agenda and the Carnival Calabar theme, “Traces of Time.”

The buses will cover major routes within Calabar Municipality and extend to neighbouring communities, including Ugep, Ikom, Abi, Obudu, and Ogoja, with an additional ferry service from Calabar to Creek Town in Odukpani.
He urged residents to utilise the service and continue praying for the administration, emphasising that the initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
