Why Corps Members Are Yet to Receive ₦77,000 Allowance – NYSC DG
This announcement comes after the Federal Government approved an increase in the monthly stipend for corps members from ₦33,000 to ₦77,000, with the new rate to take effect from July 2024.
The increment was officially conveyed in a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes, and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by the Commission’s Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.

However, despite the announcement, corps members received only ₦33,000 for their September allowance, leading to confusion and concern among participants in the youth service program.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Brigadier General Ahmed clarified that while the increase had been approved, the necessary funds to implement it have not yet been released by the government.
He reassured corps members that the NYSC is in ongoing discussions with the appropriate authorities to speed up the release of the funds and ensure the prompt implementation of the new allowance.

He stated, “Not only the corps members, but even our staff had their salaries increased about four to five months ago, but this has also not been implemented yet. We remain hopeful that the new pay will be implemented soon, but the funds have not been released to us yet.
“The information we have does not specify when the new allowance will be paid, but we have been assured that their monthly stipend has been increased as of July 29, 2024.”
