Why I Shaved My Hair for a Movie Role in AJA – Yvonne Jegede Explains
In a bold artistic choice, Nollywood actress Yvonne Jegede has shaved her natural hair, which she had nurtured for a decade, to fully commit to a role in an upcoming movie.
Sharing the transformation on Instagram, Jegede explained that going bald was essential to authentically portray her character, allowing her to connect with the role on a level beyond just dialogue and emotion.
The actress emphasized her dedication to her craft, expressing that she is willing to step outside her comfort zone to deliver an outstanding performance. Alongside the physical transformation, Jegede is also learning to speak fluent Yoruba for the role.

“I have always believed that to tell a story authentically, you must be willing to give everything to the role—even if it means stepping out of your comfort zone,” she wrote. “This belief guided my decision to cut my hair for my ongoing movie, AJA. It wasn’t easy, but it was necessary to fully embody the character I’ve been entrusted with.”
Produced by Titi Orire, AJA is being filmed in Badagry, Nigeria, and features a cast of Nollywood talents, including Rotimi Fakunle, Bianca Ugowanne, and Gbohunmi David, with a surprise guest appearance that Jegede hinted will excite fans.

She added, “I take acting seriously and believe in fully immersing myself in every role. This role challenges me to push boundaries, which is why I decided to undergo a physical transformation. I see myself as a tool to convey meaningful stories, and if a script demands it, I will do whatever it takes to bring it to life.”
