Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he will back only candidates who align with President Bola Tinubu’s agenda in the forthcoming FCT Area Council elections slated for February 21, regardless of their political affiliation.
Eko Hot Blog gathered that Wike made the remarks on Saturday night in Abuja during activities marking the 60th birthday of Senator Sandy Onor.

According to him, it is his responsibility to mobilise support for candidates who share the President’s vision and to ensure that those who oppose it do not emerge victorious in the council polls.
Speaking about the celebrant, Wike described Onor as a dependable ally and loyal friend, noting that their relationship goes beyond politics. He expressed confidence in Onor’s steadfastness, even in difficult times.
Delivering a citation, Prof. Anthony Eyang highlighted Onor’s background, noting that he was born on February 14, 1966, in Ikom, Cross River State, and nurtured in a setting that emphasised discipline, faith, and community values.
He traced Onor’s journey from academia at the University of Calabar to his service in the Nigerian Senate and involvement in Cross River politics, describing it as a life dedicated to scholarship and leadership.

Chairman of the planning committee, Senator Philip Aduda, said the celebration was also an expression of gratitude for God’s guidance in Onor’s academic and political career.
Former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, who represented former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, praised Onor as a capable and principled leader.
Likewise, former Attorney General of the Federation, Kalu Agabi, commended Onor’s courage and intellect.

A commemorative Festschrift in honour of Onor was presented by Prof. Dave Imbua of the University of Calabar and later unveiled by Ikpeazu on behalf of Wike and associates, with contributions reportedly amounting to N50 million.
In his response, Onor reflected on his 60 years, emphasising the importance of integrity, excellence, and hard work.
He expressed gratitude to family, friends, and supporters, noting that their encouragement has been invaluable throughout his journey.
