Emergency responders from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and public-spirited bystanders worked together to extricate the trapped victims. The husband was pronounced dead at the scene, while his wife sustained life-threatening injuries and was rushed to hospital for urgent medical attention.
The truck driver reportedly fled the scene immediately after the accident, evading accountability. Security and order at the crash site were maintained by operatives of the Akodo Police Division.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, described the crash as a “painful and preventable tragedy,” extending condolences to the bereaved family and praying for the full recovery of the injured spouse. He reiterated the agency’s commitment to strict enforcement of traffic laws, particularly against reckless driving and mechanical negligence.
In a separate incident later on Thursday, a 33,000-litre fuel tanker caught fire around midnight at Ile-Zik inward Magboro along the Lagos–Abeokuta Expressway. LASTMA, in coordination with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, quickly contained and extinguished the fire. Traffic was temporarily diverted to the BRT corridor before the affected road section was reopened.
LASTMA urged all motorists to observe traffic regulations, maintain vehicle roadworthiness, and exercise caution to prevent further tragedies on Lagos roads.
