Wike Mocks PDP for Poor Performance in Rivers During 2023 Presidential Election
In response to a comment by PDP chieftain Austine Opara, who noted that the local government polls in Rivers State proceeded despite opposition, reflecting the people’s exhaustion with oppressive leadership, Wike criticized Opara and others for their role in the PDP’s poor performance in the 2023 election.

“They couldn’t even run a proper campaign. They didn’t get 10%. That’s a PDP state—Rivers State,” Wike remarked.
Naija News had earlier reported that Wike, after a fallout with the PDP leadership over his failure to secure the party’s presidential ticket, worked against his party in the 2023 election.
He supported Bola Tinubu, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, contributing to Tinubu’s victory.

Tinubu later appointed Wike to his cabinet, despite Wike remaining a member of the PDP. Although there have been calls for Wike’s suspension from the PDP, he has defended his actions, stating, “For the presidential election, I supported equity, fairness, and justice. For the governorship and National Assembly elections, I supported my party, and we won.”
Wike further emphasized, “I have no apologies for my stance on the presidential election because I don’t support injustice. People say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ No, I didn’t do anti-party. I have no regrets.”
