EKO HOT BLOG reports that Wike made this assertion during a strategic meeting held in Abuja on Monday, under the banner of Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP. He stated that the party remains strong despite ongoing internal challenges, stressing, “PDP will not die.”
The meeting, held behind closed doors, brought together influential members including three former G5 Governors – Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia) – as well as PDP National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader, Philip Aduda, several lawmakers, and zonal/state executives.
In a communique issued at the end of the session, the stakeholders warned that the PDP risks self-destruction if it fails to urgently address what they described as divisive, unconstitutional practices within the party.
They specifically criticized the party’s failure to comply with constitutional provisions and the Supreme Court judgement regarding the position of the National Secretary, declaring unequivocal support for Senator Sam Anyanwu as the authentic holder of the office.
Key resolutions from the meeting include:
-
Reaffirmation of Senator Anyanwu as the duly elected and recognized National Secretary of the PDP, insisting that only he can lawfully issue notices for party meetings.
-
A call for the 2027 presidential ticket to be zoned to the South, citing equity, fairness, and the need to end the dominance of northern presidency since 2015.
-
A demand for the Acting National Chairman and Anyanwu to jointly notify INEC of the next National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, in line with party rules.
-
A firm warning that any notices or actions not sanctioned by the National Secretary are invalid and should be disregarded.
-
Full support for the National Reconciliation Committee chaired by former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.
Wike’s Meeting With Ortom
The communique concluded with a pledge to uphold the party’s constitution, defend internal democracy, and resist all efforts aimed at destabilizing the PDP.
