Nigeria will host Zimbabwe on March 25 in Uyo as part of the ongoing World Cup qualifying campaign.
Group C remains tightly contested, with Rwanda, South Africa, and Benin Republic all tied at seven points. Lesotho sits in fourth place with five points, while the Super Eagles are fifth with three points from four matches. Zimbabwe is at the bottom with two points.
Despite Nigeria’s struggles, Nees believes his team is in a similar situation and can capitalize on the Super Eagles’ poor form.
“Like us, Nigeria have their backs against the wall. They are like wounded lions looking to turn things around after a difficult start to the qualifiers,” Nees said on Brila FM.
“It will be an exciting game, and Nigeria are beatable in Uyo.”

The first leg between both teams ended in a 1-1 draw in Rwanda in November 2023. The Super Eagles have also drawn two of their home games in the qualifiers—1-1 against Lesotho and 1-1 against South Africa—leaving them in a precarious position.
Looking ahead to the upcoming match, Nees remains optimistic that Zimbabwe can take advantage of Nigeria’s struggles at home.
“Everybody knows Nigeria is better than their current position, but our situations are similar,” the 57-year-old German coach added.
