Xi Jinping Urges Stronger EU Ties Amid Escalating Trade Tensions

Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for deeper cooperation between China and the European Union in response to rising global trade tensions.

During a meeting in Beijing with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez, Xi emphasized the importance of unity and mutual benefit, especially as international dynamics shift rapidly.

“In our discussions, we’ve agreed that a strong, strategic relationship between China and Spain serves the long-term interests of both nations. With the world changing at an unprecedented pace, only solidarity and coordination can drive global growth and prosperity,” Xi said.

Spain remains one of China’s key partners in the EU, attracting investment from several Chinese firms, including electric vehicle manufacturers.

As trade disputes intensify, particularly following the U.S. administration’s decision to impose a 125% tariff on Chinese exports, Xi criticized unilateral actions and warned against global isolation.

He also noted that no one benefits from tariff wars, urging for a cooperative and open international environment.
