Yacht Flying Nigerian Flag in France Not Linked to Tinubu – Presidency
The presidency has addressed reports circulating about a yacht spotted flying the Nigerian flag in St. Tropez, a coastal town in France.
EKO HOT BLOG gathered that social media claims suggested that a “presidential yacht belonging to the Nigerian government was being used for a vacation in St. Tropez.”
However, presidential spokesman for digital and new media, Otega Ogra, refuted the claims via his X (formerly Twitter) account. Ogra clarified that the yacht in question belongs to a private individual, not President Tinubu or the Nigerian Navy, as alleged online.

Ogra pointed out that flags used by the President or armed forces do not feature the coat of arms, unlike the one seen on the yacht.
“There have been false claims that a private individual’s yacht spotted in St. Tropez is a Nigerian government yacht,” Ogra stated on Saturday.
He added, “The 42-meter Benetti yacht currently being circulated online has been privately owned for about five years since its construction.”

Ogra emphasised that the yacht has no connection to the Nigerian government, the President, or the armed forces, and any claims to the contrary are untrue.
He also explained that it’s common for luxury yachts to fly both the owner’s national flag and the flag of the country where the yacht is registered.
“The official Nigerian flag is green-white-green without a coat of arms in the middle. Flags representing the Nigerian President or Armed Forces do not include the coat of arms in the center. Any deviation from this is a clear misrepresentation,” he concluded.
