Nigerian dancer and media personality Yeni Kuti has responded to veteran actress Ngozi Ezeonu’s recent criticism of aspiring actresses attending auditions without bras.
Ezeonu, known for her roles in Nollywood, had publicly condemned what she deemed inappropriate dressing at auditions, stating she would disqualify candidates who showed up in such attire.

“How can you come to an audition ground without a bra?” she questioned.
Speaking on the TVC program Your View, Yeni Kuti expressed disagreement with Ezeonu’s remarks, suggesting they were unnecessary.
She noted that Ezeonu could have quietly rejected candidates instead of publicly criticizing their attire.
“I think it was not really any of her business. All she had to do was reject them, saying, ‘I do not want people who dress like you,’” Yeni said, adding that older generations often forget their youthful choices when judging the current generation.
Reflecting on her younger years, Yeni recalled wearing tight jeans and small tops, styles she now refrains from due to societal expectations.
“At 24, I had a flat tummy. If I wear that now, people would say, ‘Aunty, why are you showing your belly?’” she remarked.
Yeni also highlighted the harsh realities of Nigeria’s hot climate, suggesting that younger individuals might dress minimally to cope with the heat rather than intending to provoke criticism.
Concluding her remarks, Yeni called for less judgment and more empathy toward personal choices, emphasizing that creative spaces should respect individual freedom and expression.
Her response has sparked further debate on societal norms, generational perspectives, and the balance between professionalism and personal freedom in the entertainment industry.
