- Sunday Igboho and a group of other people, allegedly declared the independence of the Yorubas from the Nigerian system
- There have been ongoing campaigns in Oduduwa Nation in some parts of Southwest
- Some Yoruba kings and leaders have made it known that they are not in support of the movement
Following the ongoing uproars concerning the agitation for the creation of Oduduwa Republic out of Nigeria, the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Adetunji stated that Yorubaland cannot just decide to be out of Nigeria without consulting with the Ancestors.
Olubadan made this known through his Spokesperson, Adeola Oloko, speaking with BBC NewsYoruba, he said Kabiyesi Olubadan would like everyone to know that the intention to create Oduduwa Republic needed deep thinking and consultations across board.
As gathered by EKO HOT BLOG, The Olubadan of Ibadan also made it clear that the agitation for the creation of Oduduwa Republic goes beyond an individual or a personal interest.
He said, “I don’t want people to misinterpret Kabiyesi’s perspective concerning the creation of Oduduwa Republic, but agitating for the creation of Oduduwa Republic is beyond anyone, Kabiyesi Olubadan is not saying Sunday Igboho is not fighting a good cause, but it should be well thought out”.
“Sunday Igboho is a bonafide Yoruba, he always visit the Palace of Olubadan of Ibadan, but he has his fundamental rights to say his opinions and views about anything”.
“All Yoruba traditional monarchs must sit-down and have a deep discussion with one another to know if Yorubaland is truly ready for Oduduwa Republic”.
“Yorubaland cannot just decide to be out of Nigeria without consulting with the ancestors”.
“For instance, if a king is to be chosen, the most appropriate thing is to consult the ancestors through the oracle before anyone can be crowned as king”.
“Yorubaland has a deep cultural heritage, no one can just do things without due diligence and consultation, he added.
“We therefore need to ask those asking for the creation of Oduduwa Republic whether they made duly consulted the ancestors, he concluded.
