A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos has granted bail to activist Scott Iguma, who is standing trial over allegations of circulating a false video and issuing life-threatening statements.

EKO HOT BLOG reports that Justice Friday Oghazi, who presided over the case on Monday, approved bail for Iguma in the sum of ₦10 million. The court also ordered that he must provide one surety in like sum. The surety must either own property within the jurisdiction of the court or be a civil servant not below grade level 12 in the service of either the Federal Government or the Lagos State Government. The surety is also required to show evidence of tax payments.
The judge further instructed both the defendant and the complainant to refrain from making any public comments on the matter, noting that the case is now before the court and must be handled with fairness and neutrality.
Iguma was arraigned by the Nigerian Police on July 17, 2025, on a four-count charge bordering on alleged violation of the amended Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention) Act, 2024. He is accused of circulating a video described by authorities as false and of issuing threats to life via digital platforms.
During the bail proceedings, Iguma’s counsel urged the court to grant bail under fair and reasonable conditions. The prosecution did not oppose the bail request but insisted that both the accused and the complainant be warned against making further public statements or online publications that could jeopardise the case.
In agreement, the defence also asked the court to restrain the complainant from granting media interviews about the case.
The trial has been adjourned to October 10, 2025.
