EKO HOT BLOG reports that speaking to journalists on Monday after attending the Labour Party National Executive Council meeting under the Julius Abure-led faction, Baba-Ahmed clarified that Obi remains a committed member of the Labour Party.
According to him, Obi’s involvement in recent coalition meetings should not be mistaken for defection. He emphasised that the coalition movement is not a political party but a forum for dialogue among like-minded opposition figures.
“To the best of our knowledge, His Excellency Peter Obi, my boss and the 2023 presidential candidate, is still a member of the Labour Party. He attended coalition talks just like I did. Coalition is not a political party, and he has not become a member of ADC,” Baba-Ahmed stated.
When asked what would happen if Obi emerges as the ADC’s presidential candidate for 2027, Baba-Ahmed said that decision would be made if and when such a scenario arises.
Responding to rumours of a rift between him and Obi, Baba-Ahmed firmly denied any disagreement.
“There’s no crack, and by the grace of God, there will never be a crack between us. We are solidly together,” he said.

Obi’s name has recently surfaced in coalition talks led by opposition figures aiming to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2027 elections.
