The mission, conducted jointly by personnel of the Multi National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Hybrid Forces, and other security agencies, was aimed at clearing out the remaining elements of Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP).
“The encounter occurred during a combined operation strategically designed and executed to flush out remnants of BH/ISWAP terrorists operating within the border communities,” Major-General Kangye said.
Acting on credible intelligence, the troops raided the hideouts, triggering a fierce exchange of gunfire that resulted in the terrorists being subdued.
A significant cache of weapons and ammunition, including anti-aircraft rounds, was recovered and has been sent for further technical examination.

Major General Kangye also noted that search operations are still underway to find any fleeing terrorists and uncover more hideouts in the area.
“The Armed Forces of Nigeria, in collaboration with the MNJTF, Hybrid Forces and other security agencies, have intensified operational tempo in the Lake Chad Basin and other parts of Northern Borno to eliminate the remnants of BH/ISWAP in the region,” the statement said.
