EKO HOT BLOG reports that an All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Lagos State, Olawale Oluwo, has said he would return the resources of the state to “the true owners” if he wins next year’s election.
He also told journalists at his formal declaration event in Ikeja on Wednesday that he believes the state is capable of attaining self-sufficiency in the provision of basic amenities “just like Dubai.”
Oluwo, who was the chairman of the Ambode Campaign Organisation (AMCO), angrily resigned his position as Commissioner for Energy and Mineral Resources in 2018 and defected to the major opposition party, PDP, after his principal, Akinwunmi Ambode, lost the APC ticket in 2018.
He has since returned to the APC and submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to contest the governorship of Lagos on the APC platform last Thursday in Abuja
While officially making his ambition public, the aspirant pledged to birth a new Lagos that will lead to inclusive prosperity, adding that his administration will be a reform-minded one that will focus on security, energy, health, education, traffic, the creative economy, and others.
“My motivation is altruistic and my sense of commitment to the people of Lagos is absolute! I was born and bred in Lagos and have lived practically all my life in Lagos State. I know Lagos and Lagos knows me. I do not have the privilege of being an indigene of another state because my maternal and paternal origins are deeply rooted in Epe, Lagos State
“I am running for office because I believe in the promise of Lagos and the capacity of its people to be great. I do not see Lagos as just one of the 36 States of Nigeria, I see Lagos as capable of attaining self-sufficiency in the provision of amenities for all its inhabitants, just like Dubai.
“If given the opportunity to govern Lagos State, I will provide the leadership for a new team that will work to restore the dignity of Lagos State and re-establish its leadership role as we used to know it.
“Birth a fairer Lagos that creates an opportunity for all, not just for a few. And involve youths in governance, to prepare them for a fast leadership transition.
“Re-establish the status of Lagos as a reference point for free democratic practice.
“Implement reforms in critical sectors for GDP growth, revenues, and jobs.
“Intensify industrialization drive, leveraging on energy and infrastructure.
“Transparency, progressivism, inclusivity, and protection of minority rights. Reposition Lagos as an investment destination that is globally competitive,” Oluwo said.
