2024 VAT Revenue: Lagos Generates ₦2.75 Trillion In VAT, Rivers Claim Second – FULL LIST

Lagos State has solidified its position as Nigeria’s economic powerhouse, emerging as the highest contributor to the country’s Value Added Tax (VAT) revenue in 2024, with a record-breaking ₦2.75 trillion. This accounts for a remarkable 54% of the total non-import VAT pool, according to a report by Agora Policy.
Trailing Lagos, Rivers State secured second place with ₦832.69 billion, followed by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in third place, contributing ₦303.64 billion. Oyo State ranked fourth with ₦272.41 billion, while Kano State completed the top five with ₦77.76 billion.
The report highlighted a stark disparity in VAT contributions, as the remaining 33 states collectively contributed just 19% of the total revenue. Delta State led this group with ₦73.39 billion, while Imo State contributed the least, at ₦4.38 billion.
Agora Policy, a Nigerian think tank focused on addressing national issues, provided the detailed analysis, which underscored the significant economic contributions of a few states compared to the others.
