EKO HOT BLOG reports that the decision followed the consideration and passage of a bill seeking to extend the lifespan of capital expenditure under the budget.
The proposal was presented during plenary by the House Leader, Julius Ihonvbere, who led debate on the general principles of the bill before lawmakers voted in support of the extension.
According to the House, a significant portion of funds already released to Ministries, Departments and Agencies has not been fully utilised.
Lawmakers attributed the delay to challenges such as procurement bottlenecks, administrative constraints and other issues affecting project execution across the country.
The extension is aimed at giving government agencies additional time to complete ongoing capital projects and ensure that allocated funds are properly utilised.
It is also expected to prevent the abandonment of critical infrastructure projects and allow MDAs to settle outstanding financial commitments tied to approved works.
The approval was granted during an emergency sitting of the House of Representatives.
Lawmakers were earlier notified of the session through a memo issued by the Acting Clerk of the House, Ibrahim Sidi, which confirmed that the plenary would hold at 11 a.m. in line with the House Standing Orders.

With the new extension, federal agencies implementing capital projects under the 2025 budget now have until September 30, 2026, to utilise funds and complete ongoing projects before the revised deadline.
