The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, has dismissed reports claiming that the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) is no longer required for admission into Nigerian tertiary institutions, describing them as false and misleading, Eko Hot Blog reports.
Dr. Alausa, in a statement issued by the Federal Ministry of Education, said the Ministry’s attention had been drawn to publications circulating across some newspapers and online platforms suggesting that JAMB’s role in tertiary admissions had been scrapped.

He stressed that the report did not originate from the Ministry and should be disregarded in its entirety.
“The claim is baseless and completely untrue. At no point did the Ministry issue or authorize any statement suggesting that JAMB is no longer mandatory for admission into tertiary institutions,” Alausa said.
He reaffirmed that JAMB remains the legally empowered body responsible for conducting entrance examinations and coordinating admissions into all tertiary institutions in Nigeria.

“The established admission processes through JAMB remain fully operational, and any contrary information should be ignored,” he stated.
The Minister further emphasized the Ministry’s continued collaboration with JAMB and other education agencies to uphold transparency, fairness, and credibility in the admission system. He reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring that merit and due process guide all admissions into higher institutions.
Dr. Alausa also cautioned media organizations, bloggers, and online platforms to verify information from official sources before publication to avoid misleading the public and causing unnecessary confusion within the education sector.
The Ministry reaffirmed that there has been no change in JAMB’s statutory role, which remains central and indispensable in Nigeria’s tertiary education framework.
Members of the public were advised to rely only on official communication channels of the Federal Ministry of Education and JAMB for accurate and verified information on admission policies and other education-related matters.
